The ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ organized by Anganwadi workers and Ayalas on Monday led to tension. Thousands of activists came to Vijayawada from different districts of the state. The city roared with their slogans and protests. The police stopped those who had left from different towns and villages to participate in the agitation. There are tense situations in many areas. Police controlled the activists who reached Vijayawada blindfolded. They were forcibly arrested and taken to cookie stations in vans. Police stations in the city are filled with them. As a result, hundreds of workers were shifted to Kalyanamandapalu and other places. Some activists fell ill after clashing with the police. On this occasion, the activists complained that Chief Minister Jagan should keep his promises. In Vijayawada Dharnachowk, the police stopped the protest saying that it was not allowed.

Anganwadis who reached the city early in the morning to participate in Chalo Vijayawada went to the bus stand and railway stations and were detained by the police. Those who were coming towards Dharnachowk were arrested at Alankar intersection. Many people from different places reached Vijayawada the previous day and stayed at their relatives’ houses. With this, they reached the areas of Besant Road, BRTS Road, Sambamurthy Road and Gandhinagar in large numbers without being seen by anyone. Everyone reached the Eluru road at once. The traffic on this road was disrupted for an hour and a half. The police recovered and brought in additional forces. People going towards Lenin Center and Dharnachowk were stopped with great difficulty.

Arrests by the police led to an altercation between the two groups. While arresting those who were stationed on one side of the road, the others reached the other side and sat in the way of the vehicles going that way. CPM State Secretary Baburao, who was coming to support them, was detained by the police. Under the leadership of CITU state committee leader AV Nageswara Rao, some Anganwadis came towards Sambamurthy Road via Durgapuram. They proceeded without considering the police warnings. They were arrested near Dharnachowk. Led by CPM leader Madhu, the police worked hard to stop those who came on the road at once. The fights continued. The activists who reached the arrested stations and Kalyanamandapa continued their dharna there. Activists complained that the government has not paid the wages for 4 months and the CM’s promise to pay more than the anganwadis in Telangana has been ignored. Some of the protesters turned against the women police. The police retreated.

Kamala, an activist from Anantapur, lost consciousness in the scuffle. Her colleagues took her to the hospital. Another Anganwadi worker suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the government hospital. Another activist fell on the Sommasilli Eluru road divider. Many were injured.
