C hief Minister Basavaraj Bommai suggested to constitute a committee of experts to prepare a legal dictionary in Kannada.

Speaking after distributing Kannada awards for judges, public prosecutors and advocates here on Sunday,he said the dictionary will be of much helpful for the use of Kannada in courts daily.

Finding alternative words in Kannada will also help the judges. There are no Kannada words for English words and there is a need for the judgements in mother language.

Son of advocate

The CM said though he is not an advocate but son of an advocate and has seen this profession closely. There were 28 juniors working under his father.

Earlier people were very innocents and doing whatever told by the advocates. There will be lot change the judgements don’t come in Kannada.

The system of translation of judgements must be there. The same must be sent to the libraries of all the courts. Arrangements must be made to read the translated judgement.

The administrators must have the knowledge of law as understanding judgements nowadays is very difficult. Having primary knowledge will help to render justice and it will be complete if this starts from delivering justice and reaching petitioner.

One must understand the difference between judgement and opinions and it requires training. If democracy is strong and if any one has faith on judiciary it is because of the judicial system in the country.

Foreign investors come here because of the international level judicial system. The contribution of judiciary is very much in the country’s progress, the CM said.

Bommai said there has been a long drawn struggle to implement Kannada as an administrative language.A big agitation had been held to implement a report prepared by the committee headed by V.K.Gokak.

Now they were seeing Kannada as an administrative language in the administration.Lot of legislations have been implemented to impart education in Kannada.

Several circulars have been issued.Since the Supreme Court has opined that there must be freedom in education it has not been implemented fully. The New Education Policy has stressed on mother language.
