Abhijit Ray fromKolkata:Indian Secular Front workers had created unrest at Esplanade area at Kolkata and also had attacked police with sharp[ weapons. Due to this attack on police, the court ordered 18 people including ISF MLA Naushad Siddiqui to be in police custody till February 1st. As one of the arrested is a minor, he is being sent home. Meanwhile, ISF personnel protested outside the court demanding the unconditional release of the detainees.The police lathi-charged workers of the Indian Secular Front (ISF) and arrested its MLA, Nausad Siddiqui, after they refused to lift a road blockade in Kolkata’s Esplanade area. The unrest started last Friday night due to some firing incident. ISF had a party program at Dharmatala on Saturday. Allegedly, Trinamool attacked workers and supporters were also present at Esplanade at the same time. The ISF started blocking the busy road andhad started a siege there in protest. The police came forward to unblock the busy road and got involved in a skirmish with the ISF personnel-supporters. Suddenly, ISF supporters gave started attackinbg the police and the OC and Additional OC of Boubazar police station were severely injured. They are admitted to the hospital. The doctors said that the physical condition has improved slightly.After this incident, the police resorted to lathicharge and arrested their leader, ISF workers pelted stones injuring many policemen. Later a huge police contingent was brought in along with Combat Force personnel, who fired tear gas shells and used lathis to disperse the protesters. Several ISF workers were injured, and traffic came to a complete standstill at the busy junction of the state capital.Several complaints were made against the ISF, including attacking and beating the police, destroying government property. Police had arrested a total of 43 people including ISF MLA Naushad Siddiqui on that charge. 13 of them were arrested by police from Hare Street, 6 from New Market and the rest from Kolkata Leather Complex police station. Multiple non-bailable cases including attempted murder have been registered against the arrested.All the accused were produced before the Bankshal court on Sunday. There, the lawyer of the arrested prayed for bail. Meanwhile, the police requested to keep the arrested in their custody. Considering the statements of both parties, out of the 19 people arrested, including Naushad, 18 people have been ordered to police custody.Trinamool state president said, “What is happening in Bhangare is not right at all. It is never desirable.”
