Director General and Inspector General of Police, Praveen Sood,on Tuesday suspended the then cottonpet Police Inspector Praveen for colluding with the sex racket kingpin and power broker Manjunath alias Santro Ravi to foist a theft case against two women after they refuse to cooperate with the accused in his activities .
Senior officer told reporters,After the reports of Praveen and Santro Ravi surfaced,Home Minister Araga Jnanendra directed the state police chief, Praveen Sood to initiate inquiry and take necessary action based on which a departmental inquiry was initiated .
Police inspector,Praveen,who was attached to the Cottonpet police station had links with Santro Ravi to file a false theft case against two women who were victims of Ravi blackmail and sex racket .
One of victim,a 19-year-old accountant,trapped by Ravi and later booked under false theft case had to spend around 20 days in judicial custody at the Parappana Agrahara Central prison for an offence they never committed,said a senior police officer.
Soon after they came out on bail in the last week of December last year,one of the victim approached the Mysuru-based NGO Odanadi Seva Samthe and narrated their ordeal.
Based on the complaint,a departmental enquiry was initiated against inspector Praveen and it was learnt that not only had the theft not happened,but also that the finance company where the theft was alleged to have taken place was fictitious.
This case will not be charge sheeted and we would file a B-report.
Praveen has been transferred to the Intelligence Department,and the report of the departmental enquiry which was submitted to the office of the Director General and Inspector General of Police for further action.
With this Santro Ravi nexus with the police officials in the state proved beyond reasonable doubts and investigations has been stepped up to track him down.
Senior police officials including Mysore city police commissioner and ADGP law and order Alok Kumar, supervising the case to ensure Ravi ‘s arrest at the earliest he added.
