Two labourers including a woman were killed when part of the compound wall of MEG Officers colony collapsed on them in Bharatinagar Thursday evening.

The deceased have been identified as,Ashamma, 21,a native of Challakere in Chitradurga district and Akram Ul Haq from West Bengal,22.

Senior officer as DCP East,Dr Bheemashankar S Guled with other officers and staff rushed to spot after inspecting the area he said,The duo was working for the repair and painting work of the MEG officers colony compound wall. A portion of the compound wall collapsed around 6.30 pm.

The duo injured were rushed to the nearby hospital. Ashamma was declared brought dead while Akram succumbed while undergoing treatment few minutes later.

It was found the compound wall repair work was given to a private contractor.A huge tree adjacent to the compound leaned on it and weakened the wall .

We suspect the soil surrounding the compound wall was loose or the wall itself was weak leading to its collapse.

Ashamma was recently married and was living with her husband in the city. After learning about the incident her husband was riding on his bike to the hospital in a hurry. He met with an accident but luckily there is no risk to his life.

He is undergoing treatment in the hospital for injuries. We are yet to receive a complaint about the incident. We will take necessary action based on the complaint, Guled said.
