A 48-year-old home maker ended life after reportedly killing her 13-year-old son at their house in Hosa Guddadahalli of Mysore Road on Tuesday night.
The deceased has made a video recording to explain that she was taking the extreme step dejected over a dowry harassment case filed by her sister-in-law
The deceased identified as HM Lakshmamma, a homemaker and her son Madan BS, residents of Hosa Guddadahalli.
Madan was studying in sixth standard in a private school in RPC Layout of Vijayanagar.
Lakshmamma’s family hails from a village in Channapatana taluk in Ramanagara District.
Preliminary investigation police said that the incident came to light between 7.30 pm to 8 pm when her elder son called Prasad BS on his mother’s phone and the calls went unanswered. He called one of his neighbours and asked them to check on his mother.
The neighbor went to the house and knocked on the door, when there was no response, the neighbor went to peek through the window to find the duo hanging to the window grills.
Lakshmamma’s husband Shivalingegowda, 58, and Prasad who were at their hotel in Gandhi Nagar rushed back to the house around 9.30 pm to find people gathered in front of their house. They noticed the duo hanging and alerted the police.
The Byatarayanapura police on reaching the spot found a video clipping in Lakshmamma’s phone which was reportedly made by her.
Though she or Madan is not visible in the clipping, she explains about why she took the extreme step.
Her younger brother Siddegowda was married to Ranjitha, since Siddegowda is dim witted they got him married to Ranjitha four years ago. when Ranjitha came to know about this she filed a case against Siddegowda and nine others including Lakshmmamma under dowry harassment with Keregodu police on August and got arrested Siddegowda who is presently lodged in jail.
Fearing that she would also be arrested Lakshmmamma had taken the extreme step , Shivalingegowda in his complaint to the Byatarayanapura police said .
Based on the complaint the police have taken up a case against Ranjitha charging her under Abettment to suicide and also probing further to take up a case against the deceased Lakshmmamma for allegedly killing her minor son and committing suicide .
