NCC DIRECTORATE OF GUJARAT CELEBRATED 8TH INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY AT 348 LOCATIONS ACROSS GUJARAT

Gujarat: On the proposal of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously agreed to celebrate 21st June as International Day of Yoga every year. The 8th edition of International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated at all prominent places under the jurisdiction of NCC Directorate Gujarat, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu today. The theme for this year’s yoga day was ‘Yoga for Humanity’. As run up to the event IDY 2022, the campaign was focused on the theme “100 days, 100 Cities and 100 Organisations” till 21st June 2022 across the globe; for this NCC has been identified as one of the organisations by the AYUSH Ministry.

As the International Day of Yoga this year, is falling in the year of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Yoga Day has been physically celebrated in prominent iconic places of Gujarat State after two years of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The IDY 2022 presents an opportunity to NCC Cadets to underline the health benefits of Yoga, and motivate the public to take up the pursuit of Yoga to bring people together and spread the message of traditional Yoga.

Cadets from NCC Directorate Gujarat have taken a pledge on the link https://pledge.mygov.in/integratge-yoga-lifestyle/ and downloaded their self-generated certificate. The cadets have also posted their selfies with the certificate on social media. A total of 60 Officers, 500 PI Staff, 750 ANOs and 42,500 NCC Cadets of 05 Groups and 43 Units of NCC Directorate Gujarat Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu conducted Yoga at 348 different locations across the Gujarat Directorate including 20 iconic places to include“Statue of Unity”, “National Salt Satyagrah Memorial Dandi”, “Dandi Kutir Gandhinagar”, “Diu Fort”, Kankaria Lake” and “Rajkumar College, Rajkot”. 

Major General Arvind Kapoor, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate Gujarat, Dadra Naga Haveli, Daman & Diu lauded the contribution of the NCC Cadets, further motivating them to continue with their contribution towards Social Service and Community Development activities as part of Nation Building.
