The North Division police of Sanjay nagar police opened fire at habitual offender who attacked PSI, of Yeshwanthpur police station Vinod Rathod on Thursday in a bid to escape from being arrested.
The accused has been identified as,Diwakar having 29 criminal cases pending against him was on the run after robbing gold chain from a woman in Yeshwanthpur recently.
The police have arrested four accused in this connection but diwakar was on the run and attacked PSI with knife and escaped on thursday when they went to secure him.
The injured PSI was admitted to hospital and is undergoing treatment after the attack DCP, North Vinayak Patil,visited the crime scene and after collecting information about the incident he formed special teams and sounded alert in the city.
Meanwhile on Friday morning the Sanjaynagar police inspector,Balaraj received a tip off that the accused is hiding near Jalahalli immediately inspector and his team swung into action and rushed to the spot.
After spotting the accused constable Pradeep went to secure him but the accused who was armed with sharp weapon took out the sharp weapon and attacked the constable on his hand and tried to escape.
The Sanjaynagar police inspector Balaraj who was at the spot asked him to surrender Even after PI warning the accused and asking him to surrender, accused tried to assault PI who, then, opened fire in self defence.Police constable and accused have been shifted to hospital. Further, investigation is underway.
Both diwakar and Pradeep rushed to hospital for treatment abd said to be out of danger.
Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant has appreciated Addl CP West,Soumendhu Mukherjee,DCP North,Vinayak Patil,ACP,Reena Suvarna,PI,Balaraj,PSI,Vinod Rathod,and Constable Pradeep who has played on his life to secure the accused has been appreciated for the commendable and excellent work done by them in nabbing the notorious habitual offender who was on the run is now his heels in jail and for the exemplary work done by them a special reward will be given to the whole team he added.
