Private firm manager held,Road tax evading scam busted by CCB

Alert RTO officials busted a road tax evading scam run for high end cars by not only forging the documents of the vehicles belonging to other states but also hacking into the official website by the accused.

The accused has been identified as,Girish,private firm manager.

Senior officer told reporters,The racket came to light when the officials were verifying the details of the high end car with the original from WB registration,and applied for the change of address.

The officials as routine procedure verified the vehicle tax details from their WB counterparts , To their shock the registration number mentioned in the document is not a high end car but of a motorcycle.

Suspecting something fishy,the officials checked the chassis number and the registration number of the vehicle on the central transport department official website to find that the car was actually registered in Himachal Pradesh .

The accused was found to have hacked into the official access to the state transport website using the login ID and password of the officials to manipulate the documents of the high end cars to evade taxes.

We are investigating attempts to avoid road tax by high end vehicle owners.They get a fake vehicle number from another state, then apply for transfer of vehicle in karnataka..One accused identified as Girish arrested and further investigations are on “, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police, ( crime), said.

Based on the complaint filed by,BK Nefanand, Regional Transport officer, Bengaluru East,the Ramamurthynagar police have registered a case against Anand Ram Achari charging him under cheating and forgery.Considering the inter-state ramification,the case has been transferred to CCB for a detailed probe .

Girish was produced before a local court here on Monday and sent to police custody for 10 days by court he added.
