SBI Life launches Rickshaw mein Suraksha for making Public Transport safer in Pandemic

New Delhi, December 17: In the wake of rising coronavirus cases in Delhi-NCR, SBI Life in association with Rotary District 3011, launched Rickshaw mein Suraksha, a new campaign to promote the need for safety measures for the auto and three-wheeler community. This project is being executed by Rotary International District 3011 with the CSR support by SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd. and was Launched by the Honorable Health Minister of Delhi Sh. Satyendar Jain Ji on 17th December 2020 at 12Noon at Delhi Secretariat, near IG Stadium, New Delhi.

It will entail sanitation and category awareness activities as well as introduction of new guidelines for plying of auto rickshaws to prevent the transmission of coronavirus.

Under this campaign, SBI Life and Rotary will set up a facility to sanitize battery and CNG based auto rickshaws. These vehicles will be identified and registered using a proper MIS Data mechanism, for all vehicles plying across various zones connecting hospitals and metro stations. The supervisors will be equipped with Smart Devices to capture data as well as pictures of the vehicle and driver/owner details

The auto drivers will be provided sensitization briefings and training, on the need for safety gears, hygiene maintenance and availability of sanitizers in the vehicle 24×7. Each of the drivers will be provided guidelines (available in Hindi and English) of do’s and don’ts and a certification of completing these orientations so that passengers are ensured of their safety. They shall also be trained on the usage, maintenance and refilling of the sanitizing equipment and getting any support to carry the same.

The compliance to these guidelines will also be monitored using a complaint registration toll free number for passengers, feedback system and refill availability in every zone.

Rtn Sanjiv Rai Mehra, DIstrict Governor Rotary District 3011, says “With more coronavirus cases being reported in Delhi, public transportation poses a higher risk of safety for daily commuters. This campaign, Rickshaw me Suraksha, is an initiative to address this issue. Autorickshaw drivers need these awareness and training to realize the risk it poses to their health and the passengers aboard. These guidelines will be helpful for them to ply on roads round the clock, without compromising anyone’s safety.”

“We also want to inculcate a need to have recommended COVID19 safety gears and equipment such as sanitizers installed in the auto and e-rickshaws, across Delhi NCR so it instills confidence amongst people to safely use public transport, like in PreCovid times. Not every section of the society is able to afford private transport, so we will drive to get the autowallahs back on road. “
