The Halasurugate police have arrested seven accused,including police constable Ashok,attached to Kadugodi police station.While another policeman,Chowdegowda,is absconding.
The arrested accused has been identified as,Ashoka,29,was arrested,his colleague and fellow accused,Chowdegowda,is absconding.Five others who pretended to be policemen are, Sheikh Mohammed,34,Sooraj Yadav,25,Syed Fairoz,33,Nadeem Pasha,32 and Sandeep,25 have been apprehended.
According to police,Chowdegowda and Ashoka are attached with Kadugodi Police station.
According to the police,the prime accused in the case is Jeethu Adak and his son Sooraj are jewellers from West Bengal,owned a building where they have a gold shop.
The incident took place on November 11 at Geetha Jewellers on Yarappa Lane of Thigalarapet in Nagarthpet.
The eight-member gang, posing as policemen and officials of the Enforcement Directorate had carried out the fake raid and taken away the jewellery and some documents.
The incident came to light when Goldsmith Karthik later visited the police station only to find that no cop from there was involved in the raid. After analysing CCTV footage, police confirmed the raid was a case of robbery.
Based on the complaint,the police verified the CCTV footage and identified the registration number of the car.
The police team traced the car which was sold to six people.A cross checking with the car owners, the police finally zeroed in on Mohammed Sheikh from Annasandrapalya.
The team grilled the accused who confessed the crime and based on his information the police arrested seven others including constable Ashok but Chowdegowda managed to escape.
The police recover 240 grams of gold solid which the accused had sold it for Rs 9 lakh and shared Rs one lakh each.
Senior officer,told media persons that,The Halasurugate police are on the massive manhunt of police constable who along with seven of his associates robbed a authorized gold shop to rob 240 grams of solid gold on the pretext of raid.
A detailed investigation by the team it is revealed that the accused have rented out part of their building to Karthik,another jeweller who was running the business without trade license.
Karthik was doing good business and, earning well.Jeethu and Sooraj decided to make use of this and rob gold from karthik thinking that he would not approach police since he is running the business illegally.
Jeethu approaches his friend Nadeem pasha and discussed the plan Nadeem agreed and also sought the help of his friends Ashok and Chowdegowda who are working as constables in Kadugodi police station.Nadeem offered share in the booty if they help him to raid the shop .
The duo agreed and on November 11,the accused,led by Nadeem raided Karthik’s shop on the pretext of raid and took away 240 grams of gold solid from him.Jeethu and Sooraj though on the spot,did not take part in the raid and pretend to help Karthik in face the police inquiry on the spot he added.
Kamal Pant,Commissioner of Bengaluru city, told media persons that there will be zero tolerance towards cops involved in criminal activities and the punishment will be more severe what they assume. Two policemen are already arrested and third one is on run soon he will also be arrested he added.
