In the wake of prevention from the global pandemic Corona,people’s anger is spreading over those who strictly follow the lockdown implemented throughout the country.
On Thursday,such incidents occurred in many places across the country where the police team was attacked, stoned and threatened the personnel who came to make people aware.
The accused has been identified as,Mohammed Mushtafa,25,Suhail Basha,30,Ansar Jabbar,35,Sarfaraj H Jabbar,38,and Sageer Sharieff,40.
An Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker on Wednesday night,(1st April) was attacked by a more than 100 people strong mob in Bengaluru’s Sadiq nagar in Hegdenagar.
The ASHA worker had gone to the area along with other officials to check residents for Covid-19 symptoms after a house help in the area tested positive for coronavirus.The group was also checking if any of the residents had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin.
During the course of the exercise the ASHA worker alleged that they were surrounded by more than 50 people belonging to the ‘minority community’who manhandled her and warned her against inquiring about Covid-19.They also made it clear that they did not want anyone coming to their locality.
Karnataka ASHA activist Ms.Krishnaveeni told media persons that she was attacked in Byatarayanapura,Bengaluru,when she was collecting data related to the corona virus.She said that “the trouble started when an announcement was made against us from the mosque,whoever made the announcement should be arrested.”
The Hennur police with DCP East,Dr SD Sharanappa with ACP rushed immediately to spot and brought the situation under control.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said he has also ordered an inquiry into the matter and further investigation in the case will be done under ACP Pulakeshinagar Tabarak Fathima.
Bhaskar Rao even said,ASHA workers will be given police protection and strict action will be taken against those who threaten them.He even said,Instances of Health workers being assaulted and also creating obstruction are Noted.
A very stringent warning is issued that anyone who does or supports; non bailable criminal case will be registered and they will be sent to Jail.Doctors and Medical team have our full protection.We have registered a criminal case and arrested 5 persons who are remanded to judicial custody, protection to all medical persons is extended he added.
At the same time,Deputy CM, CN Ashwath Narayan also met the worker who was injured in the attack and he immediately rushed to meet the Asha worker at her house and after collecting the information he assured her who ever it may be a strict and stringent action will be taken against the culprits and to build confidence in them I have visited and we will not tolerate such incident he said.
Home minister Basavaraj Bommai said the incident occurred when the Asha worker had gone to check those who had come in contact with Tablighi Jamaat workers he added.
DCP,SD Sharanappa,(East) on Thursday told media persons,that based on complaint filed by Senior Helath Inspector,BBMP,a special team was led under the leadership of ACP Pulakeshinagar,Tabarak Fathima and based on technical evidence the team swung into action and detained three miscreants.
After detaining the suspects the team grilled all the trio the accused confessed the crime and based on their statement we have detained two more involved in the incident totally we have arrested five accused and produced them before the magistrate and they have been remanded to judicial custody.
Hennur police registered a case under IPC sections 353 (obstructing public servant from discharging their duty),188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) and further investigation is on he added.
