Instead of clearing the goons the cops with senior cops asked media persons to go out and some cops even said media persons to stay away as they are rowdies .
After pressure from the media and the opposition parties, the police were forced to take him into custody. But the city cops were dragging their feet and did not charge him under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder), which is a non-bailable offence. for the attack. The BJP and the JDS claim that the police were trying to dilute the case by charging him under weaker sections of the IPC.
It is alleged that Karnataka Chief Minister,  Siddaramaiah influenced commissioner to add 307 Ipc section in the fire as attempt to murder case.
The Circle Inspector of Cubbon Park Police station, Vijay Hadagali, has been suspended for allegedly helping the MLA’s son and the ACP Manjunath Thalawar has been transferred to Police Commissioner’s Office for dereliction of duty.
But the dramatic surrender of Nalapad has raised many questions. After the incident, Haris had claimed that his son was hiding somewhere without his knowledge. Later he promised to make him surrender before the police.
According to sources, Nalapad was hiding at a 5-star hotel with his father’s full knowledge. Some claim that he was hiding at his own house. But the city police did not even bother to raid the house of the MLA.
The opposition alleges that the local police station was functioning like a private office of Haris.
Home Minister Ramalingareddy had earlier promised to arrest him Sunday evening. But there was no sight of Nalapad. On Monday morning, activists from the BJP and the JDS laid a siege to police station protesting against the delay in his arrest.

Mr. Mohan told media persons that his son was at the cafe when the incident happened but wasn’t part of the assault. “My son had no links to Mohammed Nalapad or the victim. Mohammed Nalapad’s lawyer is trying to tarnish the reputation of many families,” he said and added that singling out his son was politically-motivated he added.
It is alleged that a son of a State Cabinet Minister; a city councillor, who is the son of another MLA from the city; children of two Kannada actors, and the son of a former BJP Minister from north Karnataka were all present at the cafe when the incident happened. However, many people, including the police, maintain that their visit to the cafe at the same time was a “coincidence”.

As the press gathered in front of Cubbon Park Police Station, groups of supporters of Mohammed Nalapad Haris objected to their reporting of the chaotic scene. The objections led to a scuffle, and in the process, a camera of a television channel was damaged.
The protesters also allegedly tried to prevent the television journalists from recording the events. The presspersons then aired their complaints to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Chandragupta, who then directed that an FIR be filed in the Cubbon Park Police Station. While no one has been named in the FIR, the police had requested for press footage to identify the assaulters.
