“MLA’s Son, Mohammed Nalapad Haris is still absconding “
The Karnataka Congress on Sunday suspended Bengaluru District Youth Congress General Secretary, Mohammed Haris Nalapad from the party, after reports emerged that he had assaulted a man at a restaurant, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee chief G Parameshwara on Sunday told reporters that Nalapad has been suspended from the party for six years.
The police registered a First Information Report on Sunday against Mohammed Nalapad Haris , the son of Congress MLA NA Haris, and 10 others for allegedly attacking a youth at a restaurant in Bengaluru’s UB City mall.
According to the complainant, the incident occurred on Saturday night.
“My friend Vidvat had broken his leg four weeks ago and I had decided to take him out for dinner,” complainant Praveen Venkatachalaiah told media persons that At around 10 pm, Mohammed Haris Nalapad walked into the cafe. Vidvat had stretched his leg out because he couldn’t move it and Nalapad had a problem with it.He further alleged that the Congress leader got angry and asked Vidvat to apologise for stretching his leg out. When Vidvat refused to apologise, a verbal argument ensued between the two, he added. Venkatachalaiah alleged that Nalapad and his supporters soon started beating up Vidvat. “They punched his face, hit him on the chest and also on his head. They broke his nose. They attacked him with bottles until Vidvat fell to the floor unconscious,” he claimed.After the victim was taken to Mallya Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment, Nalapad and his supporters arrived at the hospital to threaten Vidvat against filing a complaint he added.
The accused have been booked under relevant charges of the Indian Penal Code, including for wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly, rioting and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace. No arrest in the case has been made yet, the police said in the morning.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday tweeted and in his tweet he said offenders will be punished “regardless of who they are”. The Bengaluru Police will take action as per law and bring the guilty to book, he added.

Ramesh,Vidvat’s friend told media persons,that while vidwat was at UB city for dinner.Haris’s son had come with 15-20 Bodyguards.He just looked at them and they began bullying him.They beat him up brutally when we came and saw him,he was seriously injured.His bones were fractured.They hit him even after they saw his fractured leg.After that they even went to the hospital and thrashed his brother he added.
Speaking to reporters, Congress MLA Haris claimed that even he is unaware of his son’s whereabouts.I don’t know where my son is. He did not come home last night, I know the father of the boy who got hit and I have also visited him in the hospital. Such things should not happen and youngsters should understand how to behave. I shouted at him over the phone and since then it has been switched off and he has not been in touch, Haris said.I will make sure that my son does not repeat such things again. Now that the police have filed an FIR, let them take whatever action they want,” he added.
The AAP and the BJP with scores of their supporters held separate protests on Monday outside the Cubbon Park PS urging the police to arrest Nalapad.
While BJP’s protest was led by ward leader Ravi Gowda, even Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan joined the protests and demanded that the police arrest the accused at the earliest.
The AAP demonstrations were led by its state convenor Prithvi Reddy.
Meanwhile, the Congress in damage control mode tried to disassociate Harris’s son from the party and assured that law will take its own course. Nalapad was expelled from the Congress for a period of six years and removed from the post of General Secretary, Youth Congress wing of Bengaluru.
As the protest was erupted the Cubbon Park Police arrested five of Mohammed Haris Nalapad’s associates on Sunday in connection with the case of assault against a 24-year-old man at a popular cafe.The two teams were formed by commissioner of police, T Suneel Kumar under the leadership of Addl CP West,B K Singh to nab Nalapad,his five henchmen have been arrested are identified as Abhishek, Arun, Balakrishna, Manjunath and Rachik.They are believed to be associates of Nalapad, who were part of the alleged brutal attack against the victim Vidvat at Farzi Cafe in UB City mall on Saturday night said a senior officer .
Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy who visited the victim at the hospital told reporters, “Action will be taken against Nalapad. His father (Vidvat’s) has requested the police to add attempted murder charge also. Once the accused are questioned, then the police will decide. If he is not arrested by the end of the day then the PI and ACP will be suspended. I am not aware of the other incidents but in this case a man has been beaten up and a case has been registered and at 8 pm in the evening Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy directed police commissioner, T Suneel Kumar to suspend the Cubbon Park Police inspector, Vijay Hadagali on the charges of deriliction of duty for showing negligence in booking the case and were failed to nab the culprits in the given time and ACP Manjunath has been asked to report to commissioner’s office as they dint met the deadline given by me to arrest the accused so he has been suspended and manhunt is on to nab the culprits he added.
Opposition party blames Karnataka Government :
The Opposition parties allege that Mohammed Nalapad is a repeated offender, who has been involved in similar brawls earlier. They said action has been taken this time only in view of coming elections.The incident is seen as reinforcing the claims of the opposition BJP, which, ahead of the elections in the state, has accused the Siddaramaiah government of failing to maintain law and order.
Malvika Avinash, BJP spokesperson, told media persons “This young man is a repeat offender. He was involved in similar incidents in the past. The chief minister must act and the accused must be arrested at the soonest she added.
Raju Gowda,Politician told,He just told them that he cannot move his leg since as it was fractured.Even we have been in power.We aren’t supposed to support such doings.He is a close friend of mine.Instead of consoling the family,Haris should get his son arrested.He will then be considered a true politician and people’s man he added.
Jagadish Shettar said,A senior Congress leader’s son crossed his limits and kicked the fractured leg of Vidwat and thrashed him.The city has now become a playground of criminals.Nalapad knew his dad was powerful enough and so beat up Vidwat.I condemn this incident.Police should arrest him,and put him behind bars without any hesitation.If they don’t do so,then such incidents will keep recurring and then we will have to hold Siddaramaiah responsible he added.
H D Kumaraswamy JDS leader told,This is the second incident against his name.The family should get educated on how to behave or the officials must teach them,using law.All I want to say is Haris’s son has to be arrested he added .
R.Ashoka BJP Leader who visited the hospital said that Currently,Vidvat is recovering at the Mallya Hospital.this is a very ghasty incident I just saw the victim who is admitted in ICU the accused has attacked him brutally as his eyes swallown they punched him on his face his face has got swelling he can’t even properly open his eyes he even could not see properly also,what is happening in Bengaluru bengaluru city is getting turned into crime city he and his friends not only assaulted him in the cafe but they even assaulted him near parking area and even in the hospital premises I have spoken to DG&IGP,Neelamani Raju and commissioner, T Suneel Kumar too and requested them to seize all the CCTV footages from the place of incident and from the hospital before any one come and destroy the evidence as it is clearly shows in the footage that Nalapad is assaulting victim Vidvat and we demand his arrest and he should be arrested soon and we will held a protest tomorrow demanding his arrest. The Cubbon Park inspector is protecting him as before also there were incidents reported against him but no FIR was registered so this time FIR is registered and he should be behind bars he added.
Arrests were, however, yet to be made as Nalapad remained untraceable. On the directions of Home Minister, Ramalinga Reddy,Bengaluru police commissioner Sunil Kumar suspended Cubbon Park Police Inspector Vijay Hadagali and also recommended the suspension of ACP Manjunath Thalwar for failing to make the arrest.According to Bengaluru Police, the case has been handed over to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for further investigation.
Sources said that Mohammed Nalapad Haris will surrender to court tomorrow as today is holiday as he has been booked under bailable offence.
Protestors demanded his arrest and questioned the cops for not booking him under attempt to murder case.
An FIR has been registered under IPC sections 341 (wrongful restrain), 506 (criminal intimidation), 143 and 144 (unlawful assembly), 146 and 147 (rioting), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peach) at the Cubbon Park Police Station. 10 of Nalapad’s associates have also been named in the FIR.
This might not be the first time that Nalapad has assaulted someone. In 2016, a man in Bengaluru had alleged that Nalapad had assaulted him at a pub in Shantinagar and that city police had refused to file a case, according to The News Minute. In April that year too, he had allegedly assaulted a security guard
