A 23-year-old woman residing at a co-living PG in Bengaluru’s Koramangala has lodged a complaint after her innerwear and sanitary pads were allegedly stolen from her room by a fellow resident.
The accused has been identified as Giriraj, who was staying in Room No.204 on the second floor of Zolo Hazel PG and was working as an audit consultant.
Koramangala police have arrested him in connection with the incident.
According to the complaint, the 23-year-old woman was staying in Room No.101 on the first floor of the PG along with another woman.
On August 24,at around 7.21 am,both women had left their room.
During their absence,an unidentified man allegedly entered the room and stole the complainant’s innerwear and sanitary pads, along with other personal belongings.
The woman later noticed the missing items and informed the PG management.
As there was no indication that an outsider had entered the premises,CCTV footage from the PG was examined.
The footage allegedly showed a man entering the women’s floor and taking the belongings.
Further examination of the CCTV footage reportedly revealed that the suspect was staying on the second floor of the same building,in Room No. 204.He was identified as Giriraj.
Police suspect that Giriraj would come down from the second floor when the women were away, enter their rooms and steal their personal belongings.
Investigators also suspect that he would arrange the stolen items in a peculiar manner and derive sexual gratification from them.
The complaint further states that CCTV footage showed the accused attempting to enter the complainant’s room again at around 6.50 am on another occasion.
Based on the complaint and CCTV evidence, Koramangala police arrested Giriraj and registered a case.
Police are now investigating whether he was involved in similar incidents at other PGs and whether more women may have been targeted.
