Former Prime Minister,Rajiv Gandhi made immense contributions towards making India technologically advanced and economically strong, said Deputy Chief Minister Dr.G.Parameshwara.

He was speaking at the ‘Sadbhavana Day’ programme organised by the KPCC at Freedom Park to mark the birth anniversaries of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former Chief Minister D.Devaraj Urs.

Rajiv Gandhi envisioned an India entering the 21st century where people could live in peace and prosperity. India’s technological modernisation owes much to his vision.

Today, internet connectivity enables us to connect seamlessly from villages to Delhi, and Rajiv Gandhi laid the foundation for this transformation.

He also worked to create opportunities for marginalised communities and ensure greater representation for women through reforms relating to the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments and reservations in local bodies.

This brought about a major change, enabling women across the country to become representatives in local institutions,he said.

Recalling the contributions of former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs,Dr.Parameshwara said he introduced several progressive programmes in Karnataka.

Through land reforms,he empowered exploited farmers by making the tiller the owner of the land.He established Electronic City in Bengaluru in 1974 and helped create a better future for the country’s youth.

He strengthened Karnataka’s identity and helped earn it recognition across the world.Above all,he empowered the most marginalised and gave strength to those who had no voice in society.

Siddaramaiah has followed the path laid down by Devaraj Urs and has devoted his life to securing justice for the poor.

He has implemented several people-centric programmes, including Anna Bhagya, which has helped address hunger among the poor.

Siddaramaiah’s name will remain permanently etched in the political and administrative history of Karnataka,he said.

Dr.Parameshwara also said that B.K.Hariprasad has worked for nearly 35 years in strengthening the party at the AICC level and has served as in-charge of more than 30 States.

Referring to the upcoming elections,he said they would be held under Hariprasad’s leadership and added that he carries the responsibility of ensuring justice for loyal party workers and leaders who have served the Congress organisation.
