The Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority has taken cognizance of allegations surrounding a private video involving a woman police officer, which was allegedly recorded during a video call and subsequently circulated on social media.
The development comes after the woman police officer approached the Cubbon Park police, alleging that a rowdy sheeter, identified as Dharma, had recorded the video when the two were in contact several years ago.
She further alleged that Dharma later shared the footage with another rowdy sheeter, Saikumar, who allegedly circulated it further.
The officer, who is currently posted as a security officer at a Metro station, said the circulation of the video had caused serious damage to her dignity and reputation. She is married and has children.
According to the complaint, the officer has sought action against Dharma,Saikumar and others allegedly involved in recording and circulating the footage.
The Cubbon Park police have registered a non-cognisable report (NCR) and are conducting a preliminary enquiry.
The allegations have also surfaced in connection with a separate case being investigated in Belagavi.Police officials said an FIR has already been registered in Belagavi, where allegations concerning the officer’s purported interactions with inmates are being examined.
One of the allegations pertains to an inmate,Saikumar, who was lodged at Belagavi Central Prison between July 4 and November 5, 2024.
Allegations have been made regarding the unauthorised use of mobile phones and other prohibited items inside the prison,as well as the alleged role of certain prison personnel and outsiders.
It has also been alleged that Saikumar transferred Rs.25,000 through PhonePe from his mother’s Federal Bank account to a woman identified as Jayashree in connection with alleged illegal facilities inside the prison.
The allegations, including claims that video calls were made with inmates, are yet to be independently established.
The Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority taking cognizance of the matter is expected to bring greater scrutiny to the allegations involving the police officer, the prison-related claims and the alleged circulation of the video.
Police officials said the allegations are under investigation and that the claims made by the individuals involved will have to be verified before any conclusions are drawn.
