Online Gaming Debt Drives Bengaluru Woman to Suicide

A 28-year-old homemaker allegedly died by suicide after losing lakhs of rupees to online gaming and struggling under mounting debt at Bommanahalli in Nelamangala taluk,on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjitha,who was working at a private company in Nelamangala.

She had been married to Arun for around 10 years,and the couple,originally from Kalaburagi,had been living in a rented house in Nelamangala for the past five years.

Senior officer told reporters that Ranjitha developed an addiction to online gaming about a year ago and reportedly lost lakhs of rupees.

Her mother and husband had already repaid loans amounting to around Rs.15 lakh incurred by her.

However,she allegedly continued playing online games and subsequently borrowed more money.

Two days ago,Arun had travelled to Kalaburagi for work. Ranjitha was at home with their seven-year-old son when she allegedly died by suicide by hanging on Tuesday night.

Nelamangala Rural police visited the spot and conducted an inspection.The body was subjected to a post-mortem examination at the Nelamangala government mortuary.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and the financial transactions linked to the alleged online gaming addiction.
