A 32-year-old woman travelling pillion on a motorcycle was killed after she fell onto the road when the bike lost control while trrying to avoid a bad patch and was subsequently run over by a goods vehicle at Ananth Nagar near Hebbagodi in Bengaluru’s outskirts.
The deceased has been identified as Medha (32), a native of Kerala, who was working at the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) office in Electronic City.
According to the police, Medha was travelling on a motorcycle with her friend Ajay Guru.
The motorcycle was behind a car when the car driver allegedly applied the brakes suddenly while attempting to avoid a pothole.
The sudden braking caused the motorcycle to lose control.
Medha,who was riding pillion,was thrown onto the road. At the same time,a goods vehicle coming from behind ran over her neck,causing severe injuries and heavy bleeding.She died on the spot.
The incident triggered protests by local residents, who blocked the road and expressed anger over the poor condition of roads in Electronic City and surrounding areas.
Residents alleged that several roads in the area are riddled with potholes and demanded immediate repairs by the authorities.They also lit candles and paid tribute to Medha.
The Hebbagodi police visited the spot and conducted an inspection.A case has been registered at the Electronic City Traffic Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
