The Vidhana Soudha police are on the lookout for a conman who allegedly posed as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Energy Minister and threatened BESCOM officials with transfers while demanding money from them.
According to a complaint filed by Sathish Kumar D M, official with the energy minister,the accused,identified as Raghunandan,contacted three BESCOM officials over the phone on August 31.
The accused allegedly contacted Surya Prakash and Srinivas Kumar,Assistant Executive Engineers of the Chintamani Division,and Somashekar,a Superintending Engineer with CHESCOM.He reportedly claimed that he could arrange their transfers and demanded money in return.
The officials were allegedly threatened with transfers from their existing places of posting if they failed to comply with his demands.
The complainant alleged that Raghunandan falsely claimed to be the OSD to the Energy Minister and used the purported position to deceive and threaten government officials.
Vidhana Soudha police received the complaint on September 15 and registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),which pertains to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
Police are now formed a team to trace the accused and are investigating the alleged impersonation,threats and financial demands.
