A restaurant at Budigere Cross on the outskirts of Bengaluru has been sealed after police allegedly found that customers were being served beef while it was marketed and sold as mutton.
The incident came to light at Kayaloram Restaurant, located at Isiri Hub in Bommanahalli near Budigere Cross.
Based on a complaint,police arrested two persons identified as Jeeju and Shibu and shut down the establishment.
According to police,the restaurant had been operating under the name Kayaloram for nearly one-and-a-half years.
The alleged fraud was exposed when a group of youngsters recently visited the restaurant and ordered mutton meals.
Suspecting that the meat served to them was not mutton, they questioned the restaurant staff and subsequently alerted Avalahalli police.
Police teams rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection.During the inquiry,officials allegedly found that beef was being served to customers in place of mutton.
Following the findings,the two accused were taken into custody and the restaurant was sealed.
A case has been registered at the Avalahalli Police Station,and further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the alleged malpractice and whether similar incidents had occurred earlier.
Authorities have advised consumers to exercise caution while purchasing or consuming meat products and to report any suspected food adulteration or misrepresentation to the concerned authorities.
