A 16-year-old student from Kerala,who had come on a tour with a group,has gone missing in the Chandradrona hill ranges near Mullayanagiri in Chikkamagaluru district.
The missing girl has been identified as Sreenandana,a Class 10 student.She was part of a 40-member group that had travelled from Kerala.
On Tuesday evening around 6:30 PM,the group had gone to the Chandradrona ranges to enjoy the scenic beauty when the incident occurred.
As darkness set in,Sreenandana reportedly went missing.Despite immediate search efforts by her companions,she could not be traced.
Upon receiving information,police rushed to the spot. More than 30 personnel from the Forest Department and Fire and Emergency Services launched a search operation using torches and continued efforts till midnight,but found no clues.
The search operation was temporarily suspended due to dense fog,heavy darkness,and the challenging forest terrain in the hilly region.ASP Jayakumar also visited the spot late in the night to review the situation.
The search resumed early Wednesday morning with over 50 personnel.Authorities have deployed drones to locate the missing girl.
Multiple teams comprising officials from different departments have been formed to comb possible routes where the girl might have gone missing.Efforts are underway to trace the student at the earliest.
