A Special Court in Bengaluru has convicted V. Muniyappa,former Managing Director of the Karnataka Council for Technical Upgradation,in a disproportionate assets case investigated by the Karnataka Lokayukta.
The case was registered by the Karnataka Lokayukta in 2014 under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Investigators alleged that Muniyappa had amassed wealth beyond his known sources of income.
Searches conducted during the probe revealed disproportionate assets worth Rs.3.31 crore,accounting for 77.78% more than his legitimate earnings.
Following the investigation,a chargesheet was filed,and the case was taken up for trial in a Special Court.
On March 28, 2026,the 23rd Additional City Civil and Sessions Court (Special Judge for PC Act cases), presided over by Radhakrishna K.M.found Muniyappa guilty.
The court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.4.5 crore. In default of payment,he will undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
The prosecution was led by Manjunath Honnaiah Naik, who argued the case on behalf of the Lokayukta.
