Nelamangala police have registered a case against an assistant professor of microbiology for allegedly misbehaving and sexually harassing female students at a private college.
The complaint was filed by Devakar S.V.,63, a professor at the institution.
Based on the complaint,the accused,identified as Abdul Rahman Shariff,has been booked under Sections 74, 75(1),and 329(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Senior officer told reporters that the incident occurred on March 23 around 1 pm on the college premises.The accused had allegedly been facing prior complaints from students over inappropriate behaviour.
Acting on these complaints,the college management had issued him a notice seeking an explanation and had restricted his entry into the campus.
However,despite being barred, the accused allegedly gained entry into the college and misbehaved with a female student by holding her hand,triggering panic among other students.
The complaint stated that the accused’s actions,despite restrictions imposed by the management,warrant penal action and strict legal proceedings should be initiated.
The complainant also submitted copies of the complainant made by the students against the assistant professor earlier.
The complaint however has not mentioned accused being assaulted by the students at the campus.
