Continuing its probe into an illegal arms supply network, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a key gun supplier from Madhya Pradesh.
The arrested accused has been identified as Syed Irfan Rizvi (34),a civil engineer and a native of Bhopal.
Police said he was allegedly running an illegal gun supply racket alongside his professional work.
Senior officer told reporters that, Irfan had supplied arms and ammunition to Javed Alam (19),also from Bhopal.
Alam, along with Syed Masood (26) from Siddapura in Bengaluru, was arrested last month by the CCB.
Police said that on March 3,one of the suspects, who had been absconding and repeatedly failing to appear before the court, was tracked down and arrested at an apartment on Bannerghatta Road.
Based on this arrest, officers recovered two country-made firearms and three live rounds.
The case gained momentum after the CCB’s Economic Offences Wing, acting on credible information, arrested two accused including Javed at Yeshwantpur Railway Station.During interrogation, they revealed Irfan’s role as the main supplier.
A special CCB team subsequently travelled to Madhya Pradesh and apprehended Irfan.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he sourced weapons from contacts allegedly involved in illegal manufacturing and supplied them to clients across states.
With Irfan’s arrest, police recovered three pistols, a dismantled revolver, and around 50 rounds of ammunition.
In total, multiple firearms and over 50 live bullets have been seized in the case so far.
City police Commissioner,Seemant Kumar Singh said further investigation is underway to trace Irfan’s source and identify other members of the interstate arms network.
Police described the operation as a major breakthrough and said efforts are ongoing to dismantle the racket completely.
