The Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services (KSFES) has officially changed the designation of the posts of Fireman and Leading Fireman to Fire Fighter and Leading Fire Fighter respectively.
In a circular issued on March 13,the office of the Director General and Inspector General of Police (Fire and Emergency Services) stated that the change has been made following directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the recommendation made during the 44th Standing Fire Advisory Council meeting held on April 25 and 26, 2024.
The Government of Karnataka had also issued an order on February 12,2026 approving the renaming of the posts.
All fire service units across the state have been instructed to make necessary corrections in the service books of personnel and ensure that the revised designations are recorded in official documents.
The circular further directs officers to inform all staff about the change during roll call sessions and take appropriate steps to implement the order.
The circular was issued with the approval of Director T.N.Shivashankara on behalf of the Director General of Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services.
