As many as five pedestrians including a minor girl were seriously injured after a drunk advocate run over his SUV into people near the Mall of Asia at Yelahanka–Sahakara Nagar on New Year’s Eve.
Senior officer told reporters that the incident occurred around 10.15 pm near Gate No.3 at the rear side of the Mall of Asia,where police had deployed personnel to regulate traffic in view of New Year celebrations.
According to the complaint filed by Head Constable , Gangadhar Gurav,A SUV (Mahindra XUV 700 )came speeding out of the mall premises.
The driver,identified as Sunil Kumar Singh(48),allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol,lost control of the vehicle and first crashed into iron barricades installed on the footpath.
The SUV then rammed into pedestrians walking along the road,injuring Akamma (30),Chandrashekar (36), Rajalakshmi (53),Prajwal Shashidhar Chavadi (27).A minor girl who was run over miraculously escaped with minor injuries .
All the injured sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Manipal Hospital with the help of the public and police.
Further said the accident was caused due to rash and negligent driving by the SUV driver. The complaint also holds the Mall of Asia management responsible for failing to implement adequate safety measures despite heavy crowd movement during New Year celebrations.
A case has been registered,and legal action will be initiated against the driver and the mall management under section 281(rash or negligent driving/riding on a public way) 125(a)endangering life or personal safety through rash or negligent acts,and also under section 185 (drunk or drug-influenced driving) of IMV act for further investigation.
