A 26-year-old aspiring actress was found dead by suicide in her paying guest (PG) accommodation at Kengeri in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as C.M.Nandini(26), daughter of G.R.Basavarajeshwari,a government school teacher residing in Kotturu taluk of Vijayanagara district.
According to the complaint lodged by the mother, Nandini had completed her PUC in Ballari in 2018 and later joined an engineering course at an institute in Hesaraghatta,Bengaluru.
However, she discontinued her studies after developing a keen interest in acting. She subsequently underwent acting training in Rajarajeshwarinagar and worked in various Kannada television serials from 2019 while staying in PG accommodations in the city.
Nandini’s father,S.Mahabaleshwar,a government lower primary school teacher, passed away in 2021 due to illness.
Following his death,Nandini was offered a government job on compassionate grounds in 2023.
However, she reportedly refused to take up the job, insisting on pursuing a career in acting, leading to disagreements at home.
In August 2025,Nandini shifted to Insta Living PG at Mylasandra,Kengeri, where she was residing alone.
Police said that on December 28,Nandini had visited the house of her friend Puneeth in the evening and returned to her PG around 11.23 pm,after which she locked herself inside her room (Room No. 202).
When repeated phone calls from Puneeth went unanswered,he alerted the PG manager Kumar and in-charge Kiran around 11.50 pm.
The PG staff, along with other residents, attempted to communicate with her but received no response. On forcibly opening the door, they found Nandini hanging from the window grill using a veil cloth.
Kiran immediately alerted the police by dialing 112.
Kengeri police reached the spot and confirmed that Nandini had died by suicide at the scene.
In her complaint, the mother stated that Nandini had written in her diary expressing her unwillingness to take up a government job and her distress over not being understood by her family regarding her passion for acting.
The complainant has clearly stated that she has no suspicion or allegations against anyone in connection with her daughter’s death.
A case has been registered at Kengeri Police Station, and further legal procedures are underway.
