Meanwhile Several BJP leaders from the Shantinagar Assembly constituency have appealed to Congress spokesperson Binish Thomas to return to local political activity, citing his earlier contributions that reshaped the constituency’s political landscape.
Thomas,who rose from the NSUI–Youth Congress ranks and later served in various capacities in the Union government, including as a member of the Minority Commission, is credited by both supporters and political rivals for transforming the Congress’ organisational strength in Shantinagar.
Years before Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged BJP leaders in 2013 to adopt villages for development, Thomas had adopted Gowthampuram, a small ward in Shantinagar, in 2008 itself by Binish Thomas.
Local leaders recall that he undertook several civic and community initiatives there, significantly raising his visibility among residents.
According to Syed Ithirish and other BJP functionaries, Shantinagar had a strong BJP presence in 2007, when both the MLA and the councillor belonged to the party.
“But when Binish Thomas became active, the entire political scenario changed. He strengthened Congress at the grassroots level without ever becoming an MLA or MP,” a BJP leader said.
One resident of gowthampuram said whenever we visit his office he used to direct the empire hotel in castle Street to provide food for us whoever visits him we used to have the food which we likes.
Thomas is said to have stayed away from the constituency since 2015 Leaders from the BJP, as well as several auto drivers and local residents urging him to return stating that his presence would bring back development in the area.
Recognising his good works Gowthampura people have given him a title as “Gowthampura MGR ” which has published 12 years back in a famous Newspaper Dina Thanthi .This shows how Popular he is .
