High drama prevailed at the Freedom park when a woman part of the protest against allotment of internal reservation tried to immolate at the protest venue amidst thousands of protesters gathered demanding the government to increased the percentage .
Angry protesters overthrew barricades put up by the police and blocked the road burnt effigies,demanding that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah or the Social Welfare Minister H.C.Mahadevappa come to the spot to listen to their grievances and tried to march to Vidhana Soudha.
The Police had to struggle hard to contain the protesters and ease traffic movement.Traffic from Anand Rao Circle to K.R.Circle was disrupted as hundreds of vehicles stranded caught by the unexpected development on the busy road on peak hour .
The incident happened during a protest here at Freedom Park where Korma,Koracha,Lambani and Bhovi community members were protesting against the H.N. Nagmohan Das Commission report on internal reservation.
They also demanded scrapping of the internal reservation matrix,which the Government modified and seeks to implement,during the cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Thursday.
Former BJP legislator,P.Rajeev said that the Government has come up with its own formula and this would cause injustice to the communities that have suffered discrimination for centuries.
The protesters demanded that the slicing up of the matrix should be done scientifically.The protest led by State BJP President,BY.Vijayendra,and MLA,P Rajeev.
Additional police personnel have been deployed to ensure law and order .
