“To impress Rahul Gandhi,Siddaramaiah turns to ballot paper”.
Bengaluru:Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai has demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who became CM through elections held with EVMs,should now resign from his position, face elections through ballot paper, get elected, and then move ahead with the proposal of using ballot papers.
He said that it is extremely ironic that Siddaramaiah, who won elections using EVMs,has now taken a decision in the cabinet seeking ballot paper.
In a press statement,Bommai said that Siddaramaiah, who became CM twice through EVMs,has stooped to a level where he questions the very system through which he came to power.
“Let me remind him—he lost the election in Koppal which was conducted using ballot paper. Now,after winning elections through EVMs,it is ridiculous that he seeks ballot paper again. If he is serious, let him resign as CM, contest elections through ballot, and get elected.
If elections to local bodies are conducted through ballot paper, there is some basis for his stand. But without doing any of this,he is only trying to impress Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and cover up Rahul’s defeat across the country.
It is unfortunate that the State Election Commission has responded to this in a manner that is illegal. The Central Election Commission must issue clear directions to the State Election Commission”.
Withdrawal of cases is condemnable
The MP said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had withdrawn cases against PFI and SDPI and came back to power.
Secondly,he had released those who attacked a police station in Hubballi.
Later,he tried to withdraw cases against those who rioted in DJ Halli and KG Halli, falsely portraying them as innocents. But the court has convicted them.
Now again,he is trying to protect his political supporters. This will embolden anti-social elements to indulge in riots again in the name of protests.
By strengthening such destructive forces,CM Siddaramaiah’s decision is highly condemnable.
