Ranya Rao Case:DGP Ramachandra Rao Re-appointed as Head of Civil Rights Enforcement in Karnataka

Giving respite to the controversial Director General of police K Ramachandra Rao who has been linked to gold smuggling case involved by his step daughter,the state government on Monday withdrawn compulsory leave imposed on him and posted him as Director General of Police,Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement to the upgraded,vacant post .

In a notification issued,the DGP,DCRE,post is equivalent to the post of Director General of CID,Special units and Economic offences under rule 12 of IPS (pay)rules 2016.

Mr.Rao in March was was questioned by the State government-appointed inquiry committee led by Additional Chief Secretary,Gaurav Gupta,after his step daughter,Ranya Rao has been arrested for trying to smuggle 14.2 kg of gold at the airport .

During the inquiry it was revealed that Ranya had allegedly been misusing police escorts,provided to her in violation of rules,to evade custom checks and checkout of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

The State government formed the Gaurav Gupta Committee to probe the misuse of police protocol services and the possible role of Mr.Rao in the case.He was sent on mandatory leave on March 15.
