Following a mobile theft case from a crowded bus in Electronic city,the police crack down on the gang of six people from Andhra Pradesh and recovered 70 mobile phones,a car and motorcycle worth Rs.25 lakh from them.
The accused have been identified as Naganuri Kumar, 20,Sagar Sannakki,32,Shivakumar,30,Guddu sab,36, Halappa,29 and Shivashankar 20.
Explaining the modus Operandi, Senior officer told reporters that the accused posing as passenger target people having valuables including mobile phones and create a fake rush while getting into the bus to pick mobile phones.
The accused would pass on the mobile phone to one of their associate who would slip out and join the gang following the bus in a car or a motorcycle .
The remaining accused continue to travel in the bus to find the next target and pick the mobile phones while getting down before joining the gang.
The police verified the CCTV footage and zeroed in on the accused based on their physical discription and kept a watch on them along Hosur road where they were operating .
After few days of operation,the police finally caught three of the gang who were waiting on Hosur road BMTC bus stop .
Based on their information the police have arrested the rest of the accused and recovered the valuables.
Police suspect that there are many such gangs operating in the city and advised people to be careful with their valuables especially while travelling in the BMTC bus.
