Uchila (Udupi):”Karnataka is incomplete without the coastal region.A new dimension will be given to development by connecting the religious, cultural, and historical heritage of this region with tourism,”said CM D.K.Shivakumar.
Shivakumar was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Mahila Dasara’ at the ‘Udupi Uchila Dasara-2026’,organized at the Uchila Mahalaxmi Temple in Udupi district on Thursday.

“The government’s objective is to create job opportunities for local youth through tourism development.
The situation where children leave their hometowns and parents to go to Mumbai,Dubai, and Bengaluru for jobs must change.
A policy is being implemented to achieve economic progress while preserving the culture, heritage, and natural resources of the coastal and Malnad regions,”he said.
“The state government has drafted a new tourism policy to develop coastal Karnataka into a world-class tourism hub utilizing its coastline. The government aims to develop coastal tourism better than the models of Goa and Kerala states,”he added.
Response to Fishermen’s Issues:
“Elected representatives and fishermen’s organizations have submitted representations regarding various demands, including the problems of fishermen in the coastal region, waiver of loan interest, and an increase in kerosene subsidies.
As the election code of conduct is in force, new announcements cannot be made on stage.
However, the submitted representations will be reviewed, discussed with officials, and further action will be taken,” he said.
“If I make a promise,I keep it.Trust is as important to a human being as roots are to a tree,”he remarked.
“Mysuru and Coastal Dasara are not merely religious celebrations. They are matters of heritage pride, economic activity drivers, and symbols of unity.
There is a need to build society through devotion, harmony, culture, and humanity.Rising above differences of caste and religion, everyone must live in unity,”he appealed.
Guarantee Schemes Power Women’s Empowerment :
“Mahalaxmi symbolizes wealth,Mahasaraswati symbolizes knowledge, and Mahakali symbolizes power.
Women are the primary force behind the progress of family and society.
For the economic empowerment of women, the government has implemented five guarantee schemes. These schemes are helping reduce the financial burden on families,”he said.
“Over 1 crore 24 lakh women are receiving the benefits of Gruha Lakshmi. When women progress, the family progresses.
When the family progresses, society progresses, and when society progresses,Karnataka achieves progress,” he added.
Priority for Preserving Coastal Art and Culture:
“The government will take steps to preserve and foster local art and craft heritage, including the traditional wood carving art of the coastal region.
To protect the heritage of carving art alongside creating job opportunities,a decision was taken in the cabinet meeting to discuss and set up a special park,”he informed.
“The coastal region’s Huli Vesha,Yakshagana,Kambala, and the Tulu language are symbols of self-respect for this region. It is necessary to introduce and nurture these for the next generation,”he said.
Respect for Tulu Language:
“It is a matter of joy that I had the privilege of declaring Tulu as the second additional official language of the state. This decision was taken in response to the long-standing demand of the people of the coast,”he said.
Bharat Jodo Youth Clubs for Young Talent :
“To provide an appropriate platform for the talents of rural youth, steps have beenj taken to establish Bharat Jodo Youth Clubs at every Gram Panchayat and ward level.
In each club,100 to 250 young men and women can join and engage in music, art, drama, sports, and cultural activities.
The goal is to showcase rural talent at the state, national, and international levels.Rs.10 lakh will be provided to every Gram Panchayat and ward for establishing these clubs.Youth can become members by paying a fee of Rs.10,”he said.
