“Sugarcane growers of the state must remain patient. This is not just Karnataka’s issue, but an issue affecting all growers across the nation.
We are also in discussions with leaders from Maharashtra regarding sugarcane prices,”appealed Chief Minister D.K.Shivakumar to the state’s sugarcane growers.
Shivakumar made these remarks while responding to the media on Thursday near the Mahalakshmi Temple in Shrikhetra Uchila,Kapu,Udupi district.
“Sugarcane growers must survive, and sugar factories must survive. This is our aim.We have discussed this issue with Union Government ministers, and they have convened a meeting.
Due to the lack of rain this time, the crop yield has also decreased. No one should take the law into their own hands,”he said.
“Over the last 10 years, neither sugar nor sugarcane prices have increased. Last time,we announced government support for sugarcane growers, and we will continue that support.Everyone, please remain patient for a while. Let us discuss this,”he added.
When asked about the SIR protest, he said,”Irrespective of party affiliations, everyone’s vote must be protected. Voting is a constitutional right granted to the people of the state, and I will work to protect it.”
“The coastal region is a sacred land. Even if efforts fail, prayers never fail.I have been given an opportunity to serve the people and resolve their issues.I came here to seek darshan of Goddess Mahalakshmi and offer my prayers,”he stated.
