A dispute over ₹600 allegedly ended in murder near Vidyapeetha Circle,within the limits of CK Achukattu police station,on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Manju alias Koli Manja.Police have arrested a suspect,identified as Palani,in connection with the murder.
Senior officer told reporters that Manju and Palani had an argument near a bar on Saturday night over the return of a mobile phone that Palani had pledged with Manju for money.
Palani had allegedly pawned his phone to arrange money and later demanded that Manju return it, reportedly needing money to consume alcohol.
The disagreement escalated into a heated argument, during which Palani allegedly assaulted Manju with a wooden stick,striking him on the head.
Manju,who worked as a construction labourer,sustained serious injuries and later died despite treatment.
The CK Achukattu police visited the scene and conducted an inspection.The arrested accused is being questioned further he added.
