Vijayanagara:Deputy Chief Minister Dr.G.Parameshwara directed officials to ensure that rural people are not forced to leave their villages and migrate in search of work during the drought.Employment should be created locally and wages must be paid within the stipulated time, he instructed.
During his visit to Talebasapura Tanda in Hosapete taluk, the DyCM inspected works where local residents have been provided employment under the VB-G RAM G scheme.
He later interacted with workers and officials and instructed them to ensure adequate local employment and timely payment of wages.
Priority to Water, Fodder and Employment During Drought:
Officials were directed to take immediate measures to prevent drinking water shortages in villages. They were also asked to make advance arrangements to ensure adequate fodder for livestock, including procuring fodder from elsewhere and setting up fodder banks wherever necessary.
Do Not Migrate for Sugarcane Cutting or Work in Coffee Plantations:
Dr.Parameshwara said that if local employment is unavailable during the drought, people may be forced to leave their villages in search of work such as sugarcane cutting, work in coffee plantations or other daily-wage employment.
“Our Government’s objective is to ensure that such a situation does not arise.Do not leave your villages. We will provide work here itself.A lack of rain should not mean a lack of work.
The very purpose of the Government scheme is to provide you employment locally,he assured the workers.
Referring to migration among members of the Lambani community, including from Talebasapura Tanda,he directed officials to create adequate employment opportunities so that people can remain in their villages and find work locally.
Wages Must Be Paid Every Week: Strict Directions to Officials:
During his interaction with workers at the site,Dr. Parameshwara learnt that wages had not been paid for three to four weeks, and in some cases for nearly a month. Expressing strong displeasure, he pulled up the officials concerned on the spot.
“If people have to wait for months to receive payment after completing their work, how are they expected to eat and support their families? If wages are not paid, they will naturally be forced to leave the village in search of work elsewhere. That must not happen,”he said.
He directed officials to release all pending wages immediately and said he would personally take up the issue with the authorities concerned.
“Wages must be paid every week. Workers must receive payment for the work they have done on time. If payments are delayed, take immediate action,” he instructed the CEO and other officials concerned.
Dr. Parameshwara directed officials to immediately examine the reasons for the delay in wage payments and clear all pending dues. He said implementation of the scheme must not remain confined to records alone.
“Providing employment during drought is a priority for our Government.
But if those who work do not receive their wages on time, the very purpose of the scheme is defeated. Wage payments must therefore be continuously monitored,” he instructed officials.
Benefits of Guarantee Schemes Must Reach Every Eligible Beneficiary:
During the interaction,Dr.Parameshwara also reviewed the delivery of benefits under the Anna Bhagya and Gruha Lakshmi schemes.
He directed officials to verify the details of women who had not received the ₹2,000 Gruha Lakshmi assistance and resolve any technical or documentation-related issues so that all eligible beneficiaries receive the benefit.
He said delays in some cases were due to the process of correcting records, including removal of names of deceased beneficiaries and duplicate entries under the same beneficiary.
Under the Anna Bhagya scheme, rice is being distributed, and steps will be taken to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of any Government benefit, he said.
