The Bengaluru City Lokayukta police on Thursday laid a successful trap and arrested a Central GST official and a private person for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹8 lakh to close a complaint pending against a city-based businessman.
The case was registered under Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The accused public servant,identified as Mohit Pratap Singh,Superintendent,Central GST,South Division-4, A-
Range,South Commissionerate,allegedly demanded Rs.8 lakh from Syed Zameer for closing a complaint filed against him in connection with a pending Central GST matter.
The second accused,Salman Sheikh,a private individual, allegedly acted as a mediator in the transaction.
Following the complaint,the Lokayukta team laid a trap at the chamber of the Superintendent, Central GST, Kendriya Sadan,Koramangala,where the bribe was allegedly accepted.
The trap was conducted by the Bengaluru City Lokayukta team.Vijaya Krishna,PI,is investigating the case.
The operation was supervised by Bharat Reddy,DySP; Thippeswamy,DSP;Anil Kumar, DSP;Shankarappa,PI; Chidananda Murthy,PI,and their team.Further investigation is underway.
