In a harrowing incident,a father allegedly pushed two of his young children into an irrigation canal near Ganganala village under the Gogi police station limits in Yadgiri district before calling the police helpline to confess to the crime.
The accused,identified as Shantappa,reportedly took his three children on a motorcycle between 2:15 pm and 2:30 pm.

Upon reaching the canal,he allegedly threw his nine year old daughter,Sanvi (a Class 4 student),and his two and a half year old son,Srujan,into the water.
He spared his six year old daughter,Sanjana (a Class 1 student),kept her with him and rode to Yadgiri town.
After reaching Yadgiri,Shantappa dialed the emergency response helpline (112) and informed police that he had pushed two of his children into the canal.
Police teams were immediately dispatched to verify the claims.While an initial inspection was conducted near the canal late at night,search and rescue operations had to be suspended due to darkness.
A comprehensive search operation involving the Fire and Emergency Services was launched at 6:00 am the following morning to locate the two children.
Preliminary police investigations suggest that the accused is mentally disturbed and frequently engaged in domestic disputes with his wife,Renuka.
During initial questioning,Shantappa told officials that he harbored resentment because the two children were closely attached to their mother and showed little affection toward him.
Police stated that a murder case will be formally registered and subsequent legal action will follow as the search operation progresses.
