The Bengaluru West District Congress Committee has lodged a complaint with the Malleshwaram police seeking legal action against BJP MLC N.Ravikumar, alleging that he disrespected the national flag and national anthem during an Independence Day celebration at the BJP office in Malleshwaram on August 15.

In his complaint,Congress leader and Bengaluru West District Congress Committee vice-president Kushal Haruvegowda alleged that Ravikumar failed to salute the national flag while the national anthem was being played during the flag-hoisting ceremony.

According to the complaint, other leaders present at the event, including MLC and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, stood in respect of the national anthem and the national flag.

Haruvegowda alleged that Ravikumar, who had undergone training in the RSS,stood in a manner associated with an RSS shakha instead of saluting the national flag.

He claimed that this amounted to disrespect to the national flag and the national anthem.

The Congress leader urged the Malleshwaram police to register a case against Ravikumar, conduct a detailed investigation and initiate appropriate legal action.

The allegations are contained in the complaint, and the police are yet to establish whether any offence was committed.

Earlier, members of state BJP youth wing, had approached the Malleshwaram Police seeking legal action against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, alleging that she showed disrespect to Vande Mataram during a flag-hoisting programme at the Congress office in New Delhi on August 15.

In a complaint submitted to the Malleshwaram police on August 16,BJP Yuva Morcha state office-bearers alleged that Gandhi had objected to or attempted to stop the rendition of Vande Mataram during the Independence Day programme.
