Eighteen police officers from Karnataka have been conferred the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Independence Day 2026,recognising their distinguished contribution to policing and public service.
Among the awardees is Nayeem M,Police Inspector attached to the Karnataka Governor’s Secretariat at Lok Bhavan,Bengaluru,whose 23-year career has included investigation,intelligence,security and international liaison assignments.
Nayeem joined the Karnataka State Police in 2002 as a police constable in KGF,Kolar district.
He was promoted as Sub-Inspector in 2008 and Police Inspector in 2015.
During his tenure with the National Investigation Agency (NIA),he was involved in the investigation of several cases of national importance, including major terror cases.
He has handled interrogation and investigation involving members and associates of several banned and terrorist organisations,including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed,Indian Mujahideen, Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh,NDFB and Al-Qaeda.
He also worked on counterfeit currency cases and investigations that led to the arrest of accused from the Bangladesh and Nepal borders.
Nayeem has extensive experience in international investigations,Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) matters,Letters Rogatory,Interpol coordination and liaison with the Ministries of Home Affairs and External Affairs and diplomatic missions.
He was reportedly the first Karnataka State Police officer to travel to Dubai for an investigation and bring back an accused to Bengaluru.
He also played a role in the investigation and international coordination connected with the extradition of gangster Ravi Pujari from Senegal to India,besides cases involving deportation of accused from Saudi Arabia.
Recognised as a special officer for cases involving international ramifications,Nayeem is also experienced in Call Detail Record (CDR) analysis and scientific interrogation techniques.
In his present assignment at Lok Bhavan,his coordination during VVIP visits and security arrangements has earned appreciation from the Governor of Karnataka.
