The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has sealed a Zepto warehouse operated by Nippon Express in Hoskote taluk of Bengaluru Rural district following a special inspection that allegedly found several violations of food safety norms.
The inspection was conducted on Tuesday by the Food Safety Division under the guidance of Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T.Khader to assess the quality, safety, storage,labelling and handling of food products at the warehouse.
According to the department,officials found several violations during the inspection,including non-compliant labelling,misbranding and unhygienic food handling and storage conditions, besides other alleged violations of FSSAI requirements.
The warehouse was sealed in view of the unhygienic food handling and storage conditions,the department said.
A notice has been issued to the concerned Zepto warehouse,and the department has recommended filing a case before the jurisdictional Adjudicating Officer for further legal action under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act,2006,and relevant regulations.
The inspection was carried out under the Food Safety and Standards Act,2006,Food Safety and Standards Rules,2011,and Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations,2011.
The department warned that strict legal action would be taken against food business operators found violating food safety regulations.
The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department said it would continue conducting special inspection drives across the State to ensure that consumers have access to safe,quality and hygienic food.
