Bengaluru City Police’s Electronic City Division conducted a special drive on Saturday to identify Foreign nationals allegedly staying illegally in the city without valid visa or citizenship documents.
As part of the operation,23 special police teams comprising 295 personnel conducted simultaneous searches at 29 locations across the division,including construction sites,sheds and other suspected hideouts.
Police checked 1,909 suspected individuals and carried out detailed verification of their identity,nationality, passports,visas and other documents.
The operation led to the detection and detention of 15 Bangladeshi nationals who allegedly did not possess valid visa or Indian citizenship documents.Police said the detained persons were originally from Bagerhat and Khulna districts of Bangladesh.
Station-wise details:
Begur Police Station: Four teams comprising 42 personnel searched four locations and checked 339 persons.Eight Bangladeshi nationals allegedly staying illegally were detained.
Parappana Agrahara Police Station: Four teams with 64 personnel conducted searches at four locations and checked 355 persons.Seven Bangladeshi nationals were detained.
Electronic City Police Station:550 persons checked by three teams.
Bandepalya Police Station:244 persons checked by five teams.
Hulimavu Police Station:219 persons checked by three teams.
Hebbagodi Police Station:202 persons checked by four teams.
No illegal Foreign nationals were detected in the Electronic City,Bandepalya,Hulimavu and Hebbagodi police station limits during the drive.
Deportation process initiated:
Police said legal action would be initiated against all 15 detained Bangladeshi nationals under the applicable laws.
Their details and verified documents are being forwarded to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for further action,including deportation as per procedure.
Police have also urged house owners, landlords, construction contractors and commercial establishments to conduct proper background verification and check identity and citizenship documents before renting premises or employing workers.
Citizens have been asked to immediately inform the nearest police station,police control room or 112 if they come across any foreign national suspected to be staying in the country without valid documents said DCP Electronic City,Narayana M.
