Two women from Nepal,who had recently arrived in Bengaluru to work as domestic helps,were found hanging from the same tree near Jakkur in north Bengaluru on Thursday morning,prompting the Yelahanka police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The deceased have been identified as Sirjana (22) and Rita (23),both natives of Nepal.
Senior officer told reporters that the women had come to Bengaluru around 15 days ago in search of employment and were working as domestic helps.
The incident came to light when morning walkers noticed the bodies hanging from a tree near Krishna Restaurant in Jakkur and immediately alerted the police.
A team from the Yelahanka Police Station rushed to the spot,conducted a preliminary inspection,and recovered the bodies.They were later shifted to a hospital for postmortem examination as part of the legal procedure.
Police said the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the deaths are yet to be established.While initial reports had suggested that the women were from Assam,their identities were later confirmed as Nepali nationals.
Investigators have informed the victims’family members and are examining all possible angles, including the events leading up to the incident.
Officials said it would be premature to draw any conclusions until the postmortem report,Forensic findings,and other evidence are examined.
A case of un natural death has been registered at the Yelahanka Police Station,and further investigation is on.
