The Madanayakanahalli Police have registered a case against the owner of a private de-addiction and rehabilitation centre and two staff members for allegedly assaulting an inmate at a rehabilitation facility in Machohalli near Madanayakanahalli on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
According to the complaint,Pavan Kumar,30,having Chronic addiction was admitted to Santhrupthi Foundation Rehab Centre in Machohalli on the night of July 29.
The complainant alleged that on the morning of July 30, the rehab centre owner,Raju,instructed inmates to perform physical exercises.
When Pavan Kumar reportedly informed him that he was unwell and unable to exercise,Raju allegedly assaulted him with a PVC pipe.
The complaint further alleges that Raju,along with two staff members identified as Madhu and Subramanya, stripped the victim,took him to a secluded corner of the facility,and repeatedly assaulted him on his hands,legs, back,head and chest.The accused also allegedly abused and kicked him.
The complainant stated that a woman employee of the rehabilitation centre later telephoned him and warned that his son had been assaulted and should be taken home immediately,claiming that his life could be in danger if he remained at the facility.
When the complainant reached the rehab centre,he alleged that Raju abused him instead of responding to his concerns.After obtaining his signature on certain documents,the centre released his son.
After returning home,the complainant noticed multiple injuries on his son’s body.The victim allegedly broke down and narrated the assault.
The family then contacted the police helpline,following which Hoysala police personnel responded and advised them to obtain medico-legal treatment at KC General Hospital.
Based on the complaint,Madanayakanahalli Police registered a case under Sections 115(2),118(1),352 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is underway.
