Bangalore-based journalist Binish Thomas has been honoured by the Government of Uttar Pradesh for his contributions to journalism at both national and international levels.

The recognition has drawn praise from senior journalists and colleagues across the city, who lauded his body of work and dedication to the profession.

Many described the award as a well-deserved acknowledgment of his consistent reporting and impactful storytelling.

Several veteran journalists also voiced a broader demand, urging the Government of India to consider nominating Binish Thomas to the Rajya Sabha to represent the journalism fraternity.

They said his vast experience and understanding of public issues would help amplify the voices of both journalists and citizens at the national level.

“Having someone with grassroots experience and credibility in Parliament will strengthen democratic discourse and ensure that concerns from the field are heard,”a senior journalist said.

Colleagues further noted that such a move would not only benefit the media community across the country but also add value to governance by bringing informed perspectives into policymaking.

Meanwhile, a group of veteran journalists said they would make a representation to the Chief Minister and submit a request for considering Binish Thomas for nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

They expressed hope that the Centre would take note of the demand and consider his nomination in the larger interest of the profession and public representation
