Ship Visits and Walkathons organised at Porbandar, Gujarat to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a frontline warship of the Indian Navy, INS Beas, was open to the school children in and around Porbandar port in Gujarat, Daman & Diu Naval Area on 20 Jul 2019. The visits by various schools to the ship were facilitated by INS Sardar Patel in coordination with INS Beas. The broad theme is “Know Your Armed Forces” with specific insight into “Kargil Victory”. Enthusiastic crew of the ship conducted a guided tour, briefed the school children on various weapons and sensors fitted as well as closely interacted with 148 students and 12 teaching staff. The Commanding Officer interacted with the students & staff and shared reflections about life at sea.

During the early morning hours on 21 Jul 19, unit wise Walkathons were organised at Porbandar. INS Sardar Patel organised a 10 k.m. Walkathon through the City Area and Chowpati Beach at Porbandar. The aim of the Walkathon was to spread awareness about Indian Navy and Kargil Victory amongst the local populace. All the service personnel of INS Sardar Patel and SPB (PBD) as well as the personnel of DSC platoons spiritedly participated in the Walkathon. Naval Air Enclave, Porbandar, also organised a 05 k.m. Walkathon around the Porbandar Airfield for its Ship’s Coy and Families followed by visit to Naval Air Squadrons. The event received an overwhelming response and participation.
