Fake IAS officer arrested for Rs.41 lakh fraud in Bengaluru

The Amruthahalli police have arrested a man for allegedly posing as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and cheating government officials and businessmen of Rs.41 lakh.

The accused,identified as Mithun,a native of Kadur in Chikkamagaluru district,allegedly claimed to be a 2023-batch IAS officer.

He reportedly introduced himself as a senior official in the National Health Mission (NHM) and gained the confidence of several individuals.

According to police,Mithun visited a government hospital in Chikkamagaluru and conducted meetings with doctors and nurses,successfully convincing them of his credentials.

Through the district surgeon,Dr.Chandrashekar,he got acquainted with Satish,the owner of Shreyas Medicals.

He allegedly promised to secure a medicine supply tender worth Rs.1.8 crore and demanded a 20% commission.

Under this pretext,he collected Rs.36 lakh near Jakkur and,in total,cheated the victim of Rs.41 lakh.

To strengthen his claims,the accused also misused the name of a Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

Acting on suspicion,the Amruthahalli police launched an investigation and apprehended him.

During interrogation,Mithun allegedly claimed that he was among the 900 candidates selected from 10 lakh aspirants,further deceiving people.

Police suspect that he may have cheated several other hospital owners as well.Further investigation is underway.
