Despite hightend security mobile phones continue to operate in the high security central prison of Parappana garahara with Six mobile phones and a SIM card were seized during a surprise inspection conducted by prison officials at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison on April 10.
The raid was carried out between 1:30 pm and 1:45 pm at Tower-01,6th Barrack,Room No.3.The items,which are strictly prohibited inside prison premises, were found concealed within the barrack.
A complaint by Karna B Kshatri,Superintendent, (incharge),Central Prison Parappana Agrahara was filed on April 11 at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station, and a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022,including Section 42.
Preliminary findings suggest that the contraband may have been smuggled into the prison with internal assistance and used illegally by inmates.
Meanwhile,Alok Kumar,Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services),has initiated probe against the inmates but also against mobile service providers if they are found responsible for network access despite the presence of signal jammers.
Authorities are investigating possible lapses in jammer functioning and the role of service providers.Further probe is underway.
