59 school van & 13 Tanker drivers booked for drunk driving in a 2 hour special Drive by BTP

City traffic police booked 59 school vehicle drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol during a special early morning drive conducted across Bengaluru on Thursday,raising serious concerns over student safety.

The special drive,carried out between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM,specifically targeted school vehicle drivers and water tanker operators.

According to official data,a total of 73 cases were registered,including 59 against school vehicle drivers and 14 against water tanker drivers.

Police officials said the violations posed a grave risk to children and other motorists on the road.“Drunk driving by school vehicle drivers is extremely dangerous as it directly endangers the lives of students,”officials noted.

All drivers who tested positive for alcohol have been booked under relevant provisions of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act.

Authorities also confirmed that the driving licences (DLs) of the offenders will be forwarded to the respective Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for suspension.

Traffic police stated that such special drives will continue in the coming days to ensure stricter enforcement and enhance road safety across the city.
